Jewelry Care

On this page you can find tips for keeping your jewelry looking as beautiful as the day you bought it!

Universal Jewelry Care:

  • Remove before showering, bathing, cleaning etc.
  • Apply cosmetics, perfumes, hairspray etc. prior to putting on your jewelry. These will cause a film on your jewelry and will speed up the tarnishing process.
  • Store beaded items strung on silk lying down, as the silk will stretch over time.
  • Store in a clean dry place, preferably in the plastic bag given, unless you are dealing with cultured pearls (see below).
  • Keep all jewelry away from salt water, chlorinated water and other abrasives.

Caring for Sterling Silver

  • The silver used by Beadazzling Couture is .925 sterling silver. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver with other metal alloys.
  • Sterling silver will tarnish over time. To slow this process from happening it is beneficial if you store your jewelry in the plastic bag provided, with the anti-tarnish strip.
  • Beadazzling Couture does not make any items with silver plated items or base metal.
  • To polish sterling silver use a cloth that is 100% cotton or contact us for polishing cloths.

Caring for Pearl Jewelry

  • The saying "Last-on and First-off" applies here! Cultured pearls can be easily scratched. Take extra precaution with wearing and storing these delicate items.
  • Pearl jewelry can be washed with mild soap and water. Do not clean cultured pearls with any chemicals, abrasives or solvents. These substances can and will damage your pearls.
  • Pearls are organic materials and should not be confined to plastic, store in a soft pouch.
  • Expose regularly to humidity.
  • When cleaning pearls, take a damp cloth and rub the pearls. Do not soak in water as this will stretch the silk and allow dirt and other particles to embed in the silk.

Caring for Gemstone Jewelry

  • If there are any gemstones on your jewelry be very careful how you clean it. Clean gemstones with mild soap and water. Abrasives and chemical cleaners can damage gemstones.
  • When storing gemstones keep them out of direct light, as the light will fade some gemstones.

Caring for Gold-filled Jewelry

  • Gold-filled is made from solid "gold" and "filled" with other alloys.
  • The gold is bonded to the base metal with heat and pressure. Beadazzling Couture does not use "gold-plated" materials.
  • Gold-plated materials, are composed of a dipping process and will eventually chip or flake off, where gold-filled does not.
  • It is a good alternative to those who have sensitive skin and cannot wear sterling silver.
  • Store gold-filled jewelry in the plastic bag.
  • Keep separate from sterling silver.
  • Use a soft cloth dipped in mild soap and water to clean. Pat dry and store.

Ultra Sonic and Chemical Cleaners

  • Beadazzling Couture does not recommend and is not responsible for the use of ultra sonic or chemical cleansers on its jewelry.
  • The vibration and chemicals can scratch gemstones, pearls and other beads.
  • If in doubt, please contact us with any questions.
